[ The PC Guide | Troubleshooting and Repair Guide | The Troubleshooting Expert | Troubleshooting Specific Components ] Troubleshooting Floppy Disk Drives This section discusses troubleshooting problems related to the floppy disk drive. The floppy disk has become much more of a commodity item in recent years; virtually all new PCs today come with the same 1.44 MB 3.5" drive which is the de facto standard. The maturity of this technology has allowed the price of these drives to drop down into the "disposable" range, meaning that a lot of problems that in the past were fixed by repairing the floppy drive now are fixed by replacing it. Troubleshooting floppy drives has therefore become much easier in a way; in many cases it comes down to isolating whether or not the problem is caused by the floppy drive and if it is, getting a new one. Please choose the category best describing the problem you are having with the floppy drive or disks.
