The screen image is bulging in or out in the middle (the vertical edges of the screen bow in or out)

Explanation:
The screen image is not straight vertically. The image is either bending in toward the middle of the screen in a concave shape, or bending outwards in a barrel or convex manner.
Diagnosis:
This aspect of screen image quality is normally manipulated using what is called a "pincushion adjustment". Some newer monitors have a control for this on the outside, while older ones generally do not.
Recommendation:

If you have a pincushion adjustment, try changing it to straighten out the edge of the image. You may have to adjust some other parameters such as image size and location if they change as a result of using this adjustment.
Try changing the screen resolution. This may reduce or eliminate the distortion, especially if you lower it.
Take the monitor to a repair shop to have it adjusted.
