My system thinks I have a locked key lock but it is unlocked

Explanation:
The system is giving an error message or refusing to boot because it says that the keyboard is locked, or the case is locked, but the key isn't locked.
Diagnosis:
This is probably a wiring problem of some sort, or else a motherboard failure.
Recommendation:

Turn the key so that it is locked, and then unlock it again, and see if the problem goes away. If it does, then the key lock or its wiring has become a bit "flaky" and you may want to discontinue using the key lock or disconnect it.
Open the case and check the connection from the key lock to the motherboard. This may be a two-pin or a five-pin connection (with older PCs, the two wires from the key lock are combined with the two wires for the power LED into a five-pin connector). Make sure the connector is inserted correctly; check the motherboard manual.
Disconnect the key lock from the motherboard. This should let you boot the system, but the key lock will no longer function.
If the problem persists, troubleshoot the motherboard.
